Dr. Pavan Kumar, Dr. S Borkar, Dr. N Kothari.

Department Of Cardiac Surgery [A Lilavati Hospital ]

P.Diabetes in Coronary Artery Disease patients undergoing CABG is increasing. Many patients are on Insulin. These diabetic patients have advanced blocks in early age requiring aggressive bypass surgery.

Arterial type of bypass surgery is preferred mode of treatment presently. Due to increased incidence of infection and bone non union usually bilateral IMA not used in these cases. Mr. M. K. 52yr gentlemen underwent successful arterial CABG x 3 LIMA / RIMA / RADIAL on 4 / 3/ 2005.

He is a insulin dependent diabetic. Under aggressive antibiotic cover and sugar control Bilateral IMA was used to bypass blocks in LAD & RCA, Circumflex artery was bypassed by another arterial conduit the radial artery as free graft. Patient had uneventful recovery with good wound healing. This is representative case of changing strategies for CABG for better long term out come.
